For a few years there has been an ongoing trend where parents (and well-intentioned relatives) buy adult boards in the smallest sizes for their youngest and smallest riders. That's because a lot of kid-oriented boards can't take the abuse dished out by aggro groms, but what these young riders give up for the stiffer adult-sized boards is the magic of extra pop and a lively feel. That's why Salomon reinforced their Junior Fierce snowboard with a durable design but kept all the best freestyle elements intact. The Fierce features a rugged Aspen wood core for enhanced durability and resilient ABS sidewalls. Despite all the durable features, the Fierce retains a long-lasting, snappy flex through a series of internal biaxial, low density fiberglass strips. Salomon uses this special low density fiber design in snowboards that are small, light and intentionally designed for extra pop--but the Fierce also has a forgiving quality that stiffer snowboards often sacrifice, so it can be an excellent platform for progression. Beneath everything is Salomon's S-Glide 900 base, a low-maintenance surface that's finished with a medium stone finish that improves glide in all snow conditions.
